Generic Course Objectives

To increase awareness and understanding of the process involved in membership recruitment and/or retention.

To learn and explore with others in my association the appropriateness and value of membership development techniques.

To exchange ideas and learn from the experiences of others.

To develop a common internal understanding of membership terminology, concepts and frameworks.

To explore the opportunity to engage in collaborative work with others working on the same membership development issue.

To gain a comprehensive reference list of resources available for membership associations.

To generate a customized list of strategic and tactical action points.

Additional Information

  • For more information and to discuss availability of dates please call 0870 747 9185.
  • The cost of an in-house course is £1,950 per day plus VAT (€2,810) and travelling expenses. (From the Midlands.) This includes handouts and excludes lunch.
  • The day normally starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4.30am, but this could be changed to suit your requirements.
  • Invoice terms: 30 days.
  • Delegate Numbers: The standard fee covers a maximum 20 delegates. Past experience has taught me:
    • It is difficult to accommodate more delegates in terms of responding to individual needs and allowing sufficient time for interaction. Often there is value and insight in the person interaction, so it is important to have the time to accommodate this.
    • If it is essential to add more delegates then more can be added for an additional £100 per person. [Be warned, in the past I have found that delegates comment on their feedback forms that there are “…too many people on the course” as the numbers reach 20 and beyond.]
  • Changes to the standard seminar: It is possible to include some customisation and accommodate a few changes to the seminar content to suit your situation at no extra cost. Ideally a representative from your organization will have attended an open course so can advice on any customization. If you require any areas to be covered that are not on the standard program or require a more in-depth coverage of issues which requires additional preparation, this will be charged at £500 per day.
  • Room Layout & Equipment: The best interaction is when the room is set out in a wide U-shape. If there are fewer people or you only have a small room it is possible to accommodate a boardroom set-up. I will bring both laptop and projector. This means I would be grateful if you could organize:
    • A central top table for the laptop and projector with two nearby electricity sockets.
    • A screen to project onto. (Please advise beforehand if projection will be on to a wall.)
    • A flip chart, paper and at least three marker pens.
    • If any cables are visible from the socket to the equipment across a walkway, please can you provide either masking tape so that the cables can be taped down or a cable cover to prevent delegates (and me!) from tripping up.
    • NB: There needs to be a reasonable distance between the screen and projector. Also we need to be conscious that the view of the people sitting at the front will not be hampered by the projector.
  • Access: Ideally I like to be in the room at least an hour before delegates arrive to make final adjustments and set out delegate packs etc.
  • Timings: These are flexible and I can work around times to suit your needs. We need to include a mid morning break, lunch and mid afternoon break.
  • Catering: I assume that you will organize this.
  • Accommodation: Unless the venue is close to home (the West Midlands) I will travel to the venue the night before so please could you arrange accommodation.
  • Follow-up: I would recommend a follow-up session. Each delegate will leave with an action plan and it helps delegates get more value from your investment in training if they report on progress and can share experiences. If required I can facilitate this.
